Vince Lombardi was an American football coach known for his time with the Green Bay Packers. He led the Packers to five NFL Championships in the 1960s, including two Super Bowl wins. Lombardi is considered one of the greatest coaches in NFL history, and his name is synonymous with winning. After his death, the Super Bowl trophy was renamed the Vince Lombardi Trophy in his honor.
Lombardi was born in Brooklyn, New York, in 1913. He played college football at Fordham University before embarking on a coaching career. Vince began his coaching career at a high school in New Jersey before moving on to assistant coaching jobs at several colleges. He eventually made his way to the NFL, where he served as an assistant coach with the New York Giants.
In 1959, he was hired as the head coach of the Green Bay Packers. He turned the team around, leading them to their first NFL Championship in 1961. The Packers would go on to win five more NFL Championships under Lombardi, including two Super Bowls. He retired from coaching in 1967 but remained with the Packers as their general manager. He died of cancer in 1970 at the age of 57.
