Who Owns The Texas Rangers?
The Texas Rangers franchise’s current owner is Chuck Greenberg, who purchased the club for $593 million. Tom Hicks originally owned the franchise, but he sold the team to Greenberg in 2010.
Greenberg is a managing partner of the Rangers and has been with the organization since 2010. He is also a minority owner of the Pittsburgh Pirates. Greenberg is also a founding partner of SCP Partners, a sports and entertainment private equity firm.
Under Greenberg’s ownership, the Rangers have seen some success. They made it to the World Series in 2010 and 2011, though they lost both times. The team has also made it to the playoffs six times since 2010.
About The Texas Rangers Franchise
The Texas Rangers are a Major League Baseball team based in Arlington, Texas, located in the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex. The Rangers franchise was established in 1961 as the Washington Senators, an expansion team awarded to Washington, D.C., after the city’s first American League Ballclub, the second Washington Senators, moved to Minneapolis–St. Paul following the 1960 season.
The new Senators were originally scheduled to start to play in 1962 along with the Los Angeles Angels (now the Anaheim Angels), but by June 1961, both teams had been added to the AL for the 1961 season. The Senators played their home games at Griffith Stadium until 1971 when Robert F. Kennedy Stadium opened.
They relocated to Arlington Stadium (later renamed Arlington Stadium and now named Globe Life Park in Arlington) in 1972. The franchise was renamed the Texas Rangers prior to the start of the 1972 season.
The team has made eight appearances in the MLB postseason, seven following divisional championships (1969, 1996, 1998, 1999, 2010, 2011, 2015), and once as a wild card team (2012).
