Who Owns The New Orleans Saints?

Who Owns The New Orleans Saints?

Gayle Benson currently owns the New Orleans Saints. She inherited the team from her husband, Tom Benson, who passed away in 2018. Mrs. Benson has been a vocal advocate for the team and the city of New Orleans since taking over ownership. Under her leadership, the Saints have continued to be one of the most successful franchises in the NFL.

Tom Benson purchased the team in 1985 for a price of $70.2 million. As of 2024, the team is worth $4.4 billion, making them the 28th most valuable franchise in the NFL.

Where Do The Saints Play Their Home Games?

The Saints play their home games at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana. The Superdome has been their home stadium since 1975 and is one of the NFL’s largest stadiums, with over 73,000.

In 2005, Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans and much of the Gulf Coast region. The Superdome was used as an emergency temporary shelter for displaced residents. The stadium suffered damage from the hurricane (notably to its roof and ancillary buildings), forcing the Saints to play their entire home schedule elsewhere while repairs were made.

About The New Orleans Saints Franchise

The New Orleans Saints are a professional American football team based in New Orleans, Louisiana. The Saints currently compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member of the league’s National Football Conference (NFC) South division.

The franchise was founded on November 1, 1966. The name “Saints” is an allusion to November 1 being All Saints Day in the Catholic faith and to the fact that the franchise was awarded on that date. New Orleans has a large Catholic population and the spiritual “When the Saints Go Marching In” is strongly associated with the city.

The team’s primary colors are old gold and black; their logo is a simplified fleur-de-lis. They played their home games in Tulane Stadium through the 1974 NFL season. The following year, they began to play at the newly constructed Louisiana Superdome (now the Mercedes-Benz Superdome since Mercedes-Benz acquired the stadium’s naming rights in 2011).

The Saints have made 14 playoff appearances, including seven NFC South division championships (2006, 2009, 2010, 2011, and 2017), and qualified for three NFC Championship Games (2006, 2009, and 2019), winning one: Super Bowl XLIV in 2010 over the Indianapolis Colts 31–17.
