Who Owns The Colorado Rockies?

The Colorado Rockies franchise is owned by a group of investors led by Dick Monfort, who purchased the team for 95 million. Monfort is the chairman and CEO of the team and has been since the franchise was founded in 1991. The other members of the ownership group include his brothers, Charlie and Larry, as well as two cousins, Robert and Timothy.

The Monfort family has been involved in the meatpacking industry for generations and are also majority owners of the Rocky Mountain News. The Monforts are also active philanthropists, donating to many causes throughout Colorado.

The Rockies (as of 2024) are currently valued at $1.475 billion, making them the 20th-most valuable franchise in MLB.

About The Colorado Rockies Franchise

The Colorado Rockies are a professional baseball team based in Denver, Colorado. The Rockies compete in Major League Baseball (MLB) as a National League (NL) West division member club. The team’s home venue is Coors Field, located in the Lower Downtown area of Denver.

Early Years Of The Franchise

In 1993, the Rockies became part of Major League Baseball when they were established as an expansion team. Their first season was far from spectacular; however, it laid the groundwork for future success. With players like Larry Walker and Dante Bichette leading the way, the Rockies made their first playoff appearance in 1995.

World Series Run In 2007

The Rockies won one National League championship, in 2007, after having won 21 of their final 22 games to secure a Wild Card position. They were swept by the American League (AL) champion Boston Red Sox in the World Series that year. Losing two close games and two blowouts.

Stadium Experience

The stadium atmosphere at Coors Field has widely been considered one of the best stadiums in baseball thanks to its unique views of downtown Denver and stunning mountain vistas beyond center field.

I visited the stadium back in 2009, and it is one of my favorite ballparks in the league. From the great food, the atmosphere, and the views, it’s definitely a stadium that I would recommend visiting.

Rockies Team Logo/Colors

The Rockies’ logo features a mountain range in white and blue, which reflects Colorado’s geography. The team has used black and silver as its primary colors since 1993, after using blue and white from its inception until 1996.

They are the first MLB team to have trademarked an alternate uniform color (“Purple Mountain Majesty”) and one of only four teams to have multiple primary colors (others being the Baltimore Orioles, Los Angeles Angels, and Pittsburgh Pirates).
