The Chicago Bears are currently owned by Virginia McCaskey, who inherited the franchise from her father, George Halas. Virginia is the daughter of George Halas, who owned the team from its inception in 1920 until his death in 1983. She took over ownership of the franchise upon his death. McCaskey is also the longest-tenured owner in the NFL as of the 2024-2025 season.
George Halas purchased the team for 100 dollars (!!!) in 1920; today the franchise is worth 6.4 Billion, according to Forbes. This makes them the 9th most valuable team in the NFL.
The Chicago Bears play their home games at Soldier Field, located on downtown Chicago’s lakefront. The stadium opened in 1924, was renovated in 2003, and has a capacity of 61,500. The Bears have played there since 1971, and it is one of the most iconic stadiums in the NFL.
The Chicago Bears are a professional American football team based in Chicago, Illinois. The Bears compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the league’s National Football Conference (NFC) North division. The Bears have won nine NFL Championships, including one Super Bowl, and hold the NFL record for the most enshrinees in the Pro Football Hall of Fame and the most retired jersey numbers. They have also recorded more victories than any other NFL franchise.
The franchise was founded in Decatur, Illinois, on September 17, 1920, and moved to Chicago in 1921. It is one of only two remaining franchises from the NFL’s founding date and joined the NFL as a charter member of its first season in 1920. (The other surviving franchise from 1920 is the Arizona Cardinals, who were originally based in Chicago.) The club participated in four pre-NFL “World’s Championships” dating back to 1902, winning two.
George Halas, the team’s first owner and one of the NFL’s co-founders, was among the driving forces behind these early championships and is revered by Bears fans as “Papa Bear.” The team played home games at Wrigley Field on Chicago’s North Side through the 1970 season; they now play at Soldier Field on the Near South Side, next to Lake Michigan. The Bears have a long-standing rivalry with the Green Bay Packers, who play at iconic Lambeau Field.
