Drew Brees is one of the most successful quarterbacks in NFL history. He’s also well-known for the large scar on his face. So, how did he get it?
Brees was born with a birthmark known as a port-wine stain. These stains are caused by an overgrowth of blood vessels in the skin and can range from light pink to dark purple in color. In Brees’ case, the birthmark covers a large portion of his right cheek.
While some people with port-wine stains choose to have them removed for cosmetic reasons, Brees decided to keep his. He has said that he views it as a unique part of who he is and represents how far he’s come.
Brees is a reminder that everyone is unique and that our imperfections are what make us special. Embrace your own quirks and celebrate what makes you one-of-a-kind!
So why did Brees retire? While no official reason has been given, it is likely due to a combination of factors. Brees turned 46 years old in January 2025 and is coming off a season in which he missed five games due to injury. He may have felt it was time to move on to the next stage of his life.
It is also worth noting that Brees has been open about his post-football plans. He has stated that he wants to get into coaching, broadcasting, or business after his playing career. Whatever the reason for his retirement, Drew Brees will go down as one of the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history.
