Travis Kelce stands 6 feet 5 inches tall and weighs 256 pounds. He is one of the most physically gifted tight ends in football and can affect a game with his pass-catching and blocking ability. In 2019, he became the fastest tight end in NFL history to reach 5,000 career receiving yards.
Travis Kelce was born on October 5, 1989, making him 35 years old as of 2024.
Kelce was born in Westlake, Ohio, to Donna Kay and Ed Kelce. He has an older brother, Jason, who is an All-Pro center for the Philidelphia Eagles. Travis was raised in Cleveland Heights, Ohio, and attended Cleveland Heights High School, where he played football, basketball, and baseball.
He played as a quarterback, wide receiver, running back, tight end, linebacker, and safety on the football team. As a senior in 2008, he was named the Lake Erie League Offensive Player of the Year after rushing for 1,651 yards and 28 touchdowns on 179 carries.
Kelce accepted a football scholarship from the University of Cincinnati over offers from Akron and Toledo.
Kelce redshirted his first year at Cincinnati. As a freshman in 2009, he saw action in 11 games with one start, catching 18 passes for 139 yards and two touchdowns. As a sophomore in 2010, he played in 12 games with five starts, recording 45 receptions for 722 yards and eight touchdowns.
Kelce was suspended from the first seven games of the 2011 season for violating team rules. He started all 13 games in his junior season, recording 42 receptions for 639 yards and eight touchdowns.
As a senior in 2012, Kelce was named First-team All-Big East after setting school records for catches (45) and receiving yards (722) by a tight end while scoring eight touchdowns. He finished his career ranked second in school history among tight ends with 133 receptions for 1,855 yards and 11 touchdowns.
Kelce has been selected to seven Pro Bowls and two first-team All-Pro selections. He helped the Chiefs win Super Bowl LIV over the San Francisco 49ers, where he caught six passes for 43 yards and two touchdowns. Kelce has been a big reason for the Chief’s success over the past decade, being a security blanket for QBs Alex Smith & Patrick Mahomes.
Kelce’s style of play is unique among tight ends. He is not afraid to make catches in traffic and often uses his body to shield defenders away from the ball. This allows him to make tough catches in coverage. Kelce is also an excellent route runner. He runs sharp routes that allow him to get open against even the best defenders.
Blocking ability is another one of his strengths. He is a willing blocker and is often asked to block defensive ends and linebackers. Kelce does an excellent job of sealing off defenders and opening up holes for the Chiefs’ running backs.
