Klay Alexander Thompson was born on February 8, 1990, in Los Angeles, California, to parents Mychel Thompson and Julie Thompson. Klay has two brothers, Mychel Jr. and Trayce, also professional basketball players. He attended Santa Margarita Catholic High School in Rancho Santa Margarita, where he was a three-time letterman in basketball. In his senior year, he helped lead his team to a 30–5 record and the No. 1 ranking in the state while averaging 21.6 points per game.
Klay played college basketball for two years at Washington State University before declaring himself eligible for the 2011 NBA draft. He was selected in the first round with the 11th overall pick by the Golden State Warriors. He helped lead the Warriors to the playoffs in his rookie season with a 47–35 record, their first appearance since 2007. The Warriors went on to lose in the Western Conference Semifinals to the San Antonio Spurs in six games.
Klay has developed into one of the best shooting guards in the NBA. He is a three-time NBA champion, winning titles in 2015, 2017, 2018, and 2022 with the Warriors.
Klay Thompson is known for his smooth shooting style and ability to score in bunches. He is one of the best catch-and-shoot players in the NBA and has developed a reputation as a knock-down shooter from beyond the arc. Thompson is also an excellent defender, using his long arms and quick feet to stay in front of opponents. His all-around game has made him one of the most well-rounded players in the league.
