Baker Mayfield stands at 6-foot-1 inches tall and weighs 215 pounds. He’s not the biggest quarterback in the league, but he’s certainly not the smallest. He has good mobility for his size and is capable of making plays outside the pocket.
Baker Mayfield’s playing style is one of the most unique in the NFL. He is known for his quick release, accuracy, ability to make plays outside of the pocket, and fiery personality on and off the field.
Baker Mayfield is an American football quarterback for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at Oklahoma, where he was a two-time Heisman Trophy finalist and won the 2017 Heisman Trophy. Mayfield was drafted by the Browns first overall in the 2018 NFL Draft. He is notable for being the only walk-on (non-recruited player) to win the Heisman Trophy.
Mayfield began his collegiate career as a walk-on at Texas Tech in 2013. He transferred to Oklahoma after one season. Baker found success at Oklahoma, winning the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year twice, being a two-time First-team All-Big 12 selection, and becoming the first quarterback in conference history to be named unanimously to the All-Big 12 first team three times.
He also won the 2017 Walter Camp Award, was a unanimous choice for the 2017 Associated Press College Football Player of the Year, and the 2017 Davey O’Brien National Quarterback Award. Mayfield led the nation in passing yards (4,627), passing touchdowns (43), and total offense (5,097 yards) in his final season at Oklahoma.
In addition to his on-field accomplishments, Mayfield has garnered attention for his charisma and outspoken personality. He drew national headlines in 2017 when he planted an Oklahoma flag at midfield of Ohio Stadium after leading the Sooners to a win over Ohio State.
Mayfield was selected by the Browns with the first overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, becoming the third consecutive Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback to be taken first overall after Cam Newton in 2011 and Marcus Mariota in 2015. He is also notable for being the first walk-on to be drafted first overall in the modern era of the NFL draft.
Mayfield began his rookie season as the Browns’ backup quarterback but was named the starter in Week 3. He set an NFL rookie record for passing touchdowns in a season with 27 and was named the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year.
