College Readiness Program

The South Bay force College Readiness Program is a step by step lecture series for parents and players designed to guide college bound student-athletes through the college soccer selection and acceptance process.  

The program is run by Dr. Lee Hancock, Lee is a SBF coach but also a professor at Cal State Dominguez Hills and education consultant.   Lee has created numerous programs for youth athletes and has helped hundreds of student-athletes prepare to be successful college student-athletes.
 
Players as well as parents are encouraged to attend the session.  In addition, should families wish to speak with Lee he is available to meet with individuals.  Email lee at Lchancock@gmail.com.

Sessions will be held at Cal State Dominguez Hills.
  • Directions from Torrance are: Drive north on 190th street/Victoria to the CSUDH campus.  Turn right into Campus on Birchknoll.  Take Birchknoll past unity drive and turn right into parking lot 7.

Topic: ABC’s of recruiting & handling early communication - Initial email, Questionnaires, Follow up emails, Emails at key times
·      6 - 7:15 pm: Sophomore Girls
·      7:15 - 8:45 Sophomore boys

November 8, Tuesday
Location: SAC 1102 ( #100 on the Campus Map)
Topic: Finishing things up - Improving your SAT/ACT, Staying in communication with schools, official visits, Weighing offers – and negotiating, Signing February
·      6 - 7:15pm: Seniors
 
 
Thursday, November 10  Note: This session has been rescheduled from Nov 3rd

Topic: Visits, more communication and verbal commitments, SAT info
·      6 - 7:15pm Junior Girls
·      7:15 - 8:45pm Junior boys
College Readiness Timeline
Freshman:
·         July/August : Familiarization with NCAA information and start looking! - Differences between D1, D2, D3, NAIA., scholarship information, the importance of grades, NCAA grade expectations and initial eligibility requirement, create a list of schools
·         August-April: Talk with mom and dad about college. - How much money is needed in order to attend college, will you need to pursue financial aid?  Scholarship?
·         April - Individual meetings with Lee to keep you on track and sort through the initial list of schools
 
Sophomores:
·         July/August : Know the abc’s of recruiting and handling early communication - Initial email, Questionnaires, Follow up emails, Emails at key times
·         February: Finding $ for college  - Soccer scholarships  and other financial aid information
·         April - Individual meetings with Lee to keep you on track
 
Juniors:
·         JulyAugust : Visits, more communication and verbal commitments.
·         February: Things that need to be done end of jr into sr. year. - Stay on communication to coaches, how/when to register for the clearinghouse, SAT’s, July 1st – the magic date, Official visits
·         April - Individual meetings with Lee to keep you on track ad
 
Seniors:
·         July/August : Finishing things up - Improving your SAT/ACT, Staying in communication with schools, Weighing offers – and negotiating, Signing February
·         February-March - Participate in discussions that will prepare students for the first year of college, time management, quality study habits for college student-athletes, etc, keeping your scholarship while there, the 1st year, in and out of season.
·         April - Individual meetings with Lee to keep you on track
