The South Bay Force Youth Academy is a unique soccer development program designed to provide youngsters ages 4-9 with an opportunity to improve fundamental soccer skills in a fun and safe environment. Our program is unique in a number of ways, a few of those include: 
  • Our staff - Each session is conducted by experienced, trained, and nationally licensed coaches
  • Our curriculum - Our curriculum was created by nationally licensed coaches, educators, developmental experts and, most importantly, coaches who have their own children in the program
  • We educate - After sessions we talk about what we did, why we did it, and provide ideas to help the kids at home.

The Spring & Summer Youth Academy session dates are as follows:

The Youth Academy was created with the goal of teaching proper fundamentals and techniques to enthusiastic and athletic young soccer players before they ingrain bad habits.  Our Nationally Licensed club coaches and their highly qualified coaching staff spend approximately ½ of each 1-hour session on instruction and drills, leaving the second ½ for small-sided games in which the kids are encouraged to implement what they have been taught. The players are then given “homework” to hone the skills taught each week to maximize their development.

Registration is open for the 2012 SCDSL Spring League. To register, click here. 

Spring League is for ages U9 - U13 (using your 2012 fall age group). THE EXEPTION to this is if you are a md to lower level FLIGHT 2 team, you can opt to stay in your 2011 age group for Spring League. All Flight 1 teams and upper level Flight 2 teams should register in the 2012 fall age group. Therefore, mid to lower level Flight 2 U13 teams can play in the U13 age group for spring.

  • All U8 teams should register as U9 teams.
  • All U10 teams should register as U11 teams in order to play 11 v 11.
  • There will only be one flight per age group on each the boys and girls side.
  • All teams will play a 6 game schedule.
  • Games are for results only. No standings.
  • Teams may play up in age group if in the best interest of competition.
  • There will be one game per weekend (unless games need to be made up due to rain outs).
  • Games begin March 31st & end May 19th. There will be no games on Easter or Mother’s Day weekends.
  • All teams should expect to potentially have games scheduled on all other weekends.
  • All teams registering for Spring League must belong to an SCDSL member club.
  • All players must be registered through Cal South.  Unlimited guest players will be allowed.
  • Club pass rules still applies for players moving between their own SCDSL teams.

Spring Rules & Regulations will be available today on the SCDSL website under Resource Center > Spring League Rules & Regulations. Teams should all read and understand the rules of Spring League.

Registration for Spring will be open until Sunday, February 26th.

Registration fee is $250.00 per team. No bond is required.

Each team pays half of the established Ref fees per game.

Their form continued Sunday with a 3-0 win over Real So Cal Blue. The final featured a rematch with Real So Cal Black and with the score tied at halftime, the girls came out strong in the 2nd half to finish with a 3-0 win for their 2nd tournament win and 3rd final this season. Great job ladies!

B02 (Boys Under 9) Quigley - CHAMPION

The Boys started Saturday morning with a 9-0 win over Legends FC and moved to a closer game with West Coast FC and a 4-3 vistory.   Sunday’s semi-final pitted the boys against LA Premier FC and the Boys soared to a 6-1 win to advance to the Finals against the TVSA Hawks where the Boys persevered to a 5-4 victory and claimed the Championship.

 

B00 (Boys Under 11) Chorvat - CHAMPION

The Boys beat Arsenal Fc South 4-1 in their opening match on Saturday and moved to Real So Cal Blue Saturday afternoon and a 2-1 victory to win their pool and advance to the semi-final round.   In Sunday’s semi final round, the Boys faced Santa Barbara White and won 2-0 to advance to the Finals on Sunday afternoon.  In Sunday’s Finals, the Boys faced Real So Cal Blue and easily won 5-0 to capture the Championship.
 

G98 (Girls Under 13) Hancock - CHAMPION

Pool play started Saturday with a 4-2 win over Real So Cal Blue and finished Saturday afternoon with a lopsided 7-0 win over West Coast United.  Sunday’s semi-finals opened with the Girls facing So Cal Blues Draluck and a 2-1 win to advance to the Finals on Sunday afternoon.   Sunday’s Finals pitted the Girls against West Coast FC and the teams played to a 1-1 tie and advanced to PKs to determine the winner.   The Girls prevailed by a score of 5-4 to win the Championship.
 

G97 (Girls Under 14) Salazar - CHAMPION

 Saturday moning, the Girls faced West Coast United and triumphed by a score of 2-0.  Saturday afternoon’s pool play was against Real So Cal White ECNL and the Girls demonstrated their dominance with a solid 3-0 win to advance to the semi-final round.   The semi’s began on Sunday with the Girls facing Beach FC Perez and a hard fought 1-0 win to advance to the Finals.  The Finals rematched the Girls against Real So Cal White ECNL and once again, the Girls triumphed with a 2-1 win in Overtime to win the Championship.

With Jim Millinder leaving Southern California to take the head coaching job for the University of San Francisco women’s team, the club has been searching for someone who can continue to build the current strong set of girls teams while broadening the program.

 

In Dan Tobias, the club has hired a leader with extensive experience at the highest levels of girls soccer. Dan is a two time Pac-10 Women’s coach of the year (at two different schools) and former Soccer America National Coach of the Year. He turned around programs at Arizona and Washington State; has been a U-17 women’s national team assistant; was head coach for Region IV U-19 and U-16 ODP teams, and has extensive other ODP experience. He played at D-1 Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.

 

Technical Director Todd Saldaña commented that "South Bay Force’s commitment to top level coaching continues. We pride ourselves on utilizing the coaching knowledge that is born and bred here in the South Bay, and Dan Tobias is a great example." Dan shares our staff’s deep love and commitment to the sport and player development -- as well as a high level of South Bay pride (he grew up in Hermosa and graduated from Mira Costa).

 

Dan’s predecessor, Jim Millinder, says that "I don’t know anyone in Southern California at the girls club level with the amount of experience Dan Tobias has."

 

The club is extremely excited to have Dan on board. As Director of Coaching / Girls, Tobias’s duties will include "coaching the coaches," reinforcing the club wide curriculum, encouraging teamwork among the staff, recruiting teams and players, and a slew of other tasks. 

 

Former Director of Coaching / Girls Jim Millinder will assist Dan with the transition. Todd Saldaña said "Jim’s passion for the game, experience both as a player and a coach and his local ties to our community were huge assets to our club and will be missed," but that Dan is "someone that has had an equal amount of women’s and girls soccer coaching success and experience."

 

Tobias will also assume head coach duties for Jim Millinder’s GU-15 and GU-17 teams.

Our No. 1 Story of the Year is, of course, the Galaxy’s blitz through the playoffs that culminated with Beckham, Landon Donovan, Robbie Keane, Bruce Arena et al hoisting the MLS Cup in front of 30,000 wild fans at the Home Depot Center on a cold and wet Southern California night.

“The biggest pressure-cooker was having the championship in LA, because all year we’re reminded by our owners that it better be us, it better be us here,” a champagne-drenched Mike Magee said after the game. “Having that in the back of your heads … we knew we had to be in this game and we knew we had to win it. It’s surreal.”

(Tuesday, January 3, 2012) – LA Galaxy Homegrown Players Jack McBean and Jose Villarreal have each been included in the U.S. Under-20 National Team’s 36-man roster for a training camp that began on Monday in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. This is the second U-20 camp under head coach Tab Ramos for Villarreal and the first for McBean, who was a member of the Galaxy’s MLS Cup winning side last season.

The youngest player in club history to play in a game and score a goal, McBean recently completed his first season with the Galaxy, making his MLS debut in the regular season finale against Houston on October 23 when he scored his team’s only goal. He will be joined on the Galaxy roster this season by Villarreal, the third player in club history to be signed directly from the Galaxy Academy, who signed with the club as a Homegrown player on December 22 after starring for the club’s U-18 squad. Two of four MLS players in the camp, McBean and Villarreal will remain in training with the U.S. through the camp’s final day on Monday, January 9.

The U.S. Under-18 National Team is also training in Fort Lauderdale for the next week, with three members of the Galaxy Academy U-16 team among the 21-man roster named by head coach Richie Williams. Midfielder Willie Raygoza as well as forwards Justin Dhillon and Jaime Villarreal were all included in the squad, which began training on Monday. Dhillon and Raygoza were each members of the Galaxy Academy U-16 team that won the U.S. Soccer Development Academy championship as well as the Galaxy U-17 team that won the Generation adidas U-17 Cup in Dallas last summer. The duo will be joined in Fort Lauderdale by Jaime Villarreal, who is currently the leading goal scorer in the entire Development Academy, scoring 12 times in eight games with the Galaxy U-16’s.

While those five players will be in Florida, Galaxy Academy U-18 forward Mario Rodriguez, will be in Germany as one of 12 players selected to represent the U.S. in the U-19 Stuttgart Cup, a six-a-side indoor tournament that will be played on January 6-7. The team, which will be coached by Mark Litton, departed today for Germany and will face club sides Lechia Danzig (Poland), VfB Stuttgart (Germany) and FSV Mainz 05 (Germany) in Group A of the tournament. Rodriguez, who played for the U.S. alongside McBean at the 2011 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Mexico, has three goals in seven games for the Galaxy U-18’s in Development Academy play this season.

The LA Galaxy will open preseason ahead of the 2012 MLS season later this month. They will return to competitive action on Wednesday, March 7 when they take on Toronto FC in the first leg of their 2011/12 CONCACAF Champions League Quarterfinal, which will be played at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. They will open the 2012 MLS season will three days later on Saturday, March 10 at The Home Depot Center in MLS First Kick 2012, presented by Dick’s Sporting Goods. Seniors and Juniors participated in their first discussion covering topics such as selecting schools, taking school visits, and communicating with coaches to name a few.

Freshmen and sophomores will be participating in their first discussion at the end of August (location and time TBD).

The CRP is conducted by Dr. Lee Hancock; Lee is a SBF coach but also a professor at Cal State Dominguez Hills and education consultant. Todd Saldana and Jim Millender, two highly successful Division 1 head coaches and current Directors of SBF boys and girls programs, support Lee in his program.
