Premier League State Championships - North vs South!
Twelve teams from the CSL Premier League will be participating in the 8th Annual California Premier League State Championships. These twelve teams are some of the finest teams the CSL Premier League has to offer and are headed for a showdown with the Premier League Champions from Cal North to discover which teams are clearly "the Best of the Best."
Cal North and Coast Soccer League (CSL) founded the first truly Club Soccer State Championship and designated it as "The California Premier State Championships." The format for this event pits the winners and finalists of the State Premier League from Cal North against the CSL Premier League Champions and Finalists from CSL. Each association sends their two best representatives in the Premier League age groups of U16, U17 and U19s for both genders. Each representative must have just completed their respective statewide Premier league play.
Before this event, soccer in California did not have a true State Champion from league play. Each Association had its’ own individual state championship tournament, but no one in the past had formed a true Championship for the entire State of California. We now have a true California State Championship Tournament.
In addition, The California Premier League Championships were designed as an event to showcase the best 15, 16, 17, 18 and 19 year old boys and girls soccer players within the California State boundaries and would be advertised as such. It is an annual event which is always played in November at the end of the Northern California and Southern California Premier League seasons. Cal North and CSL/CYSA-S host this event in alternate years. This year, 2009, CSL will be hosting this Cal South sanctioned event at UCI. Directions to UCI may be found
here.
It must be noted that the California Premier League Championship has become one of the great events for scouting purposes for many college coaches of both genders. It allows coaches to observe players conditioned to the rigors of travel, competitive schedules, and disciplined training who have already demonstrated great skill and abilities by finishing at the top in their own Premier League play.
Last year, the competitive attitude between the players approached that of professionalism. The players were there to play soccer and the coaches were there to guide their players. No attitudes, no agendas, just a mutual desire to play soccer at the highest level possible. And all of the Premier teams did just that, they all played magnificently and treated the spectators to a great display of skill, desire, and more importantly, sportsmanship..
CSL, Cal South and Cal North are proud of the players and their coaches. These young men and women demonstrated how the sport is played with the proper dedication and attitude. CSL, Cal South and Cal North consider themselves fortunate to have each and everyone of these players, coaches, administrators and parents as members of our associations.
CSL will be providing the CSL Media Guide to all coaches who attend the games. College coaches may find additional copies of the CSL Premier Media Guide at the Premier Tents on the field.
